A preview of the life of Alone de Bonheur
NOTE: God, (my writing teacher) suggested Alone be born earlier, hence his birthdate has changed by three years. Rather than rewrite the entire story of sixteen hundred pages, Alone is just going to be a later late bloomer than he already was. Instead of graduating from college at age thrity-two, he will now be thirty-five.
After much anticipation, Prince Alone Rex Gottlieb de Bonheur Goldspinner is born in the kingdom and canton of Happiness.
at one, Alone is out of diapers.
on New Year’s Eve, Alone sets the tablecloth on fire.
Alone jumps the ice delivery man, and hides in the new electric refrigerator.
Alone upsets the grandfather clock (and Princilla’s birthday party), and later jumps into the turbine in the palace garden.
While polishing a big copper cauldron in the palace kitchen, Alone sees his vision projected onto the wall.
On his Spring Solstice birthday, Alone is given his first little green bicycle.
at age seven, Alone fights for his right to write left handed. Several conflicts involving his teachers Mistress Entra Sitwell, and Miss Viola Hiss ensue.
Alone goes to his first fair, later sister Princess Princilla paints the palace garden cherry trees in oil, while Alone paints the jacarandas. Before the year is out, Princilla has convinced Alone he is adopted, and therefore a commoner.
At nine, Alone starts taking care of Princilla’s horses and soon hears them talking to him.
After school, Alone starts riding his bicycle over to the greenhouse to see Wollard and Digweed, who teach him how to grow Orchidlings. Soon, the Orchidlings are talking to him.
The Pansies in the palace garden wink at Alone, and he hears them giggling at him.
Princilla locks Alone out of his chambers, after sending the King and Queen away under false pretenses. Before the year is out, Alone is living in the wardrobe closet off the main foyer. Here the hedgehogs, skunks, and beavers come to his rescue.

Alone takes to selling pots and pans, and neck and foot vibrators door to door. When knocks on the door of Mrs. Canundrum, he is offered room and board in exchange for his gardening duties. The longer he lives under Mrs. Canundrum’s roof, the more roommates he meets, sixteen in total. Mrs. Canundrum offers Alone her old VW bus, and he gives up pots and pans, after having sold his last wares to her.
At twenty-one, Alone continues to sell his vibrators door to door, only now he has a bus to store his merchandise in, instead of a storage unit. Mrs. Canundrum’s daughter comes to live with her, along with her five children, and Mrs. Canundrum asks Alone to vacate. After living in her garage for several months, he decides to take to the road, and live in his faded blue VW bus.
Alone pulls everything together, and lands his dream job with celebrity Ducky Benton, but when the celebrity and the job disappear, Alone ends up living out of his bus.
Alone writes his first book, entitled Looking Out From Within My Shell, an account of his year living on the road, but without conviction, and no backbone, the book’s success fizzles. Alone’s storage unit is broken into, and all his possessions are stolen. Later, he walks away from his bus, leaving the keys in the ignition just long enough to have it stolen.
